The Grampians National Park is one of Australia’s highlights. Majestic mountains which cast long shadows over stretching plains. From the peaks to the valleys – this landscape is rich with heritage and cultivation. It is some of the country’s most fertile land, fresh produce is always just around the corner. All of this combined means that the Grampians is the ideal spot for nature lovers, romantics and foodies. This is the exact crowd which flocks to the beautiful Royal Mail Hotel, in Dunkeld. The Royal Mail Hotel utilises its wonderful location well, with stunning views and an onsite kitchen garden featuring great local produce.  The Royal Mail Hotel includes a hatted degustation restaurant with a real focus on paddock to plate. It is a place of luxury – somewhere to rest and get back to nature, in comfort and style.

The Brief

In 2017, the Royal Mail Hotel opened the doors of its new degustation restaurant, Wichens. The hotel wanted to invest in a new uniform to match this exciting venture. That is where The Uniform Edit comes in. Because the Royal Mail Hotel needed an elegant and contemporary uniform which incorporated natural fibres, they needed the specialisation awarded by investing in customised uniform. The Uniform Edit worked alongside the Royal Mail Hotel to create a uniform which fitted this distinct brief.

.

The hotel is very much part of its rural environment. This meant that the uniform had to fit with this aesthetic. While the initial focus of the uniform re-design was for restaurant staff, the Royal Mail Hotel went on to transform the housekeeping staff’s uniforms as well. These staff are integral to the patron’s experience of the hotel – they are a visible representation of the brand.

The restaurant is a fine dining space which dictated a certain level of formality in the uniforms. Yet, the uniform also needed to speak to the modern and organic lifestyle fostered by the Royal Mail Hotel.

The Design

The final design incorporated all these niche requirements to create a look enviable by any hotel. The uniform is made largely from natural fibres, an important request from the Royal Mail Hotel. The shirts and knitted tie are cotton and the trousers and vest are pure wool.

. We designed a colour palette which reflects the hotel’s surroundings, focussing on earthy tones. For the restaurant staff, the new uniforms are subtle and professional. Their shirts are grey with dark grey highlights and the olive green tie adds a welcome warmth to this look. The trousers are a heavier weight wool, while the vest is more delicate in texture, bringing interest and diversity.

The Royal Mail Hotel wanted a more striking look for housekeeping staff. Their new uniform includes a grey shirt with contrasting black collar and cuffs. The trousers are both comfortable and smart, made of black polyester with stretch for ease of movement. There is also a stylish puffer vest for the cooler seasons.

The Final Outcome

The brief for the Royal Mail Hotel was a rewarding one. The collection is one of our favourites.

This beautiful hotel deserves a beautiful uniform which fits their ethos perfectly. The Uniform Edit enjoyed working on this exciting project.

Thanks, the shirts look fantastic! We’re using them for a conference so our team will look nice and sharp!
